Wine FUNdamentals

This new course will take you through the basics of how wine is made. You’ll learn the principal wine producing regions and their resulting wines. You’ll also explore food and wine pairing principals and determine your palate preferences through interactive tastings.

Students in this program can expect to:

  • Gain an understanding of how to taste and evaluate wines
  • Expand their wine preferences through guided tastings
  • Understand how wine is made and how this can affect a wines profile
  • Learn how food and wine can be successfully paired
  • Gain newfound confidence when buying/ordering/cellaring wine.

Participants must be 21 years of age to register and attend. ID’s will be validated upon entry.

About the Instructor

Sharyn Kervyn (de Volkaersbeke) is passionate about wine. Her entire professional career has been devoted to this Industry; learning and sharing her knowledge with the staff she trains, at lectures, seminars and with fellow enthusiasts in the wine organizations to which she belongs.

More about Sharyn:

  • She has consistently earned “Best Of” Wine Spectator Awards for her lists at The Capital Grille locations where she worked for more than a decade.
  • She opened the Getty Center in Los Angeles in 1997 as their Catering Director, developing their standards of service (still in use today).
  • As a Certified Wine Judge, she has been judging annually for Amateur, Commercial and International Competitions across the country since 2010, including the Sommelier’s Choice Awards, USA Wine Ratings, Texas International, The Great American, The Finger Lakes International and will be judging in the prestigious OIV International Competition in Berlin, Germany.
